Pneumonia and ARDS, two highly lethal types of infections, have the potential to inflict severe damage upon the population.
The region of Rawalpindi is currently experiencing a surge in serious respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), due to a change in weather conditions.
The dry and cold atmosphere is filled with pollutants such as dust and toxins, which can trigger ARDS when inhaled. Unfortunately, many individuals in the area do not take preventive measures in time to avoid these infections, resulting in a significant number of fatalities each year.
Public sector hospitals in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi alone report over 100 ARDS-related deaths annually, with the number of cases on the rise. Experts recommend that individuals experiencing symptoms such as cough, fever, lethargy, and thick sputum for over three days should undergo a chest X-ray to avoid complications. ARDS, the most fatal complication of pneumonia, can develop rapidly and impair the transfer of oxygen to blood due to lung dysfunction.
It is crucial to take preventive measures and seek medical attention promptly to avoid the potential outbreak of respiratory tract infections in the region.
