This alarming situation is prevalent not only in Karachi but also across the country. Dr. Kiyani emphasized that a sedentary lifestyle and other risk factors are leading causes of heart attacks in individuals aged between 25 and 40 years. Furthermore, he identified smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, and poor dietary habits, including the consumption of fast food and heavily oily food in Pakistan, as major risk factors for heart attacks. He emphasized that obesity is a primary catalyst for various diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Kiyani also highlighted that cardiovascular diseases affect high, middle, and low-income countries, with the latter lacking adequate healthcare resources to combat the disease burden. Responding to a query, he stated that heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide and emphasized the importance of abandoning unhealthy habits to prevent it, as treatment for heart disease is costly.
