In recent reports, it has been confirmed that the polio virus remains prevalent in multiple regions of Pakistan, which is a cause for concern among health officials. Environmental samples taken from Karachi and Peshawar have revealed the presence of the virus, which is a worrying development.
Of particular concern is the significant number of samples collected from the East and Central districts of Karachi that have tested positive for the virus. The health department has confirmed that four samples have tested positive, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Similarly, environmental samples from Hayatabad and Nade Khar in Peshawar have also tested positive for the polio virus, which underscores the need for a comprehensive response.
Officials have identified the source of the polio virus in Karachi as originating from Afghanistan, which further complicates efforts to contain the disease. The Department of Health has reported that the virus has been confirmed in environmental samples from 32 different locations in Pakistan, which demands immediate action and heightened vigilance.
The recent incident of a 12-year-old boy falling victim to the disease in Afghanistan is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of the polio virus. Unfortunately, this brings the total number of polio-affected children in Afghanistan to six, while Pakistan also grapples with its own crisis, with two children affected by the virus.
